Help Victims of Child Labor: Make them an Awesome Art Kit.

help victims of child slavery
Raise your hand if you know that child slavery still exists. Ok, now raise your hand if you knew that there were 168M children enslaved worldwide and that the United States alone spends $760BN to fix this problem. Yeah, my hand’s down (didn’t know that before we wrote this up).  So 2M of those kiddos are in Nepal ALONE. Our vetting team found this bad ass organization that’s fixing that problem. Now you can help ’em. How can you do that? We’ve got all of the deets below…

OrganizationThe Umbrella Foundation

The Low-Down:

The Umbrella Foundation is a non-profit NGO and registered charity in Ireland, Holland, Hong Kong, UK, USA and Australia working to alleviate the impact of trafficking, poverty and war on children and their families in Nepal. Established in 2005 in response to the growing number of illegal ‘orphanages’ neglecting children’s most basic rights – food, education, safe shelter, healthcare and love – we are a family-first, children’s charity which rescues vulnerable children and reintegrates them with their families and rural communities. When this is not possible, we support them in our homes until such a time as they can stand on their own two feet. As a responsible and ethical organisation, we work alongside the Child Welfare Board to prevent further trafficking and corrupt children’s homes from operating.

The Deets:

  1. One of the big things the Umbrella Foundation does is education and reintegrate these kiddos back into society, and that is one. big. J-O-B. They have a wishlist of needed items (scroll down to see the whole thing), but one of our faves was arts and crafts. So you get to help out these kiddos by bringing them joy with an arts and crafts kit :). Welcome.
  2. Check out this rad tutorial on how to put together a fun arts and crafts kit. Actually, this gives you SIX different kit types that you can put together. So now you get to put your artistic flair into it, too :). Thx The Artful Parent, your stuff is sooooo cute!!
  3. Pop it all into a box and mail it off to the closest of three locations:
