Every 9 seconds, a woman in the US is assaulted or beaten. In the United States alone, Americans spend over $8.3 Billion annually on Domestic Violence prevention, help, and after-effects – and that’s with over 50% of sexual assaults still not being reported to the police in the US. Globally, we spend $8 trillion every year on domestic abuse. According to the UN World Health Organization, 35 percent of women around the world have experienced abuse. That’s 1.2 BILLION women. Yes. Billion.
This project includes resource links, an overview of the issue, and the details on Centro Silvana Mangano, the Aina-Approved organization in Italy that you are helping. Why an Italian organization? In Italy, 1 in 3 women experience domestic abuse, one woman is murdered every 3 days (overwhelmingly due to domestic abuse), and 98% of all domestic abuse goes unreported. This amazing organization is working to combat this.
This craft is easy enough for children as small as 8 to tackle, and is a wonderful way to discuss this most important topic with small children (resource links include books for all ages). It’s the perfect craft for any parent, civic group, or church leader. This is a fantastic opportunity to introduce the idea of domestic abuse, learn how to bead, and do something very positive for these amazing survivors of abuse.
