Happy Glorious Day Aina Fam,

How are y’all doing, fave people? We’re hoping your welcoming Spring, enjoying time with loved ones, and feeling the joy of this great big world of ours. This week we’re remembering just how short life is and how much we have to fill our tanks before we can spread hope and love to others. So fill up that tank with love, peeps, and dive back in with us!

Orlando.

“Be so good they can’t ignore you.” -Steve Martin

We’re pretty sure y’all know this already, but this week saw the largest shooting in American history. There is SO much wrapped up in this tragedy, from terrorism to lgbtq, that we decided to give everyone multiple ways to DO something to change this situation. Want to know how to do something to help Orlando? Welcome to the World Peace edition of the Aina Roar.

Part 1: Terrorism. The man responsible for the shooting pledged allegiance to ISIS. So Team Aina believes the best way to stop terrorism is to spread how rad Americans really are to the rest of the world. How can we do that? Tell them your story, peeps. You want to stop terrorism? Let’s tell the world how we’re not terrible people. Tell them how we’ve gone through suck in our lives too. Tell them how just because you happen to be in a good point right now, doesn’t mean that life won’t fall apart tomorrow. Tell them that you and your kiddos will hold their hand across oceans. Best way to do that (BONUS: perfect summer project)? Get an International Pen Pal. Get all the deets here.

Worst. Phone. Call. Ever.

“These things we do that others may live.”

One of the parts of this story that struck us the most was that the shooter called the police during the attack. Can you imagine? You’ve dedicated your life to helping others, you know how to do so, and you’re helpless to do anything to stop it. These peeps need our love, Aina Fam.

Support First Responders
Part 2: Police. This is the opportunity that wins most goosebumps for the week. There is an organization that teams first responders with veterans and deploys them both domestically and internationally to respond to crises. SUCH A RAD IDEA. They’ve helped from Hurricane Sandy to the South Sudan, and now you can help them. Get the down-low here.

LGBTQ.

“Do we have to know who’s gay and who’s straight? Can’t we just love everybody and judge them by the car they drive?” -Ellen

All of the victims of the shooting were at a gay nightclub in Orlando. Frankly, we don’t think that the issue should now be where we stand on LGBTQ, because we’re pretty sure that none of us are ok with gunning ANYONE down. How can we get this point across?? Spread some love to peeps in the LGBTQ community that need it the most – because love is the only thing that conquers the world

Part 3: LGBTQ Youth. So being a teenager is mostly pretty craptastic, can we get an amen on that one? Being a teenager and lgbtq to boot has just gotta be crushing. Perhaps this is why 40% – FORTY PERCENT, peeps – of the homeless youth population identify themselves as LGBTQ. Good grief. Let’s give them some love and let them know that they’re not alone – that people care about them. Deets here.
